A precision bioprinting workflow: can we start moving biomanufacturing to the clinic?

Paul Goodwin is the Science Director for GE Healthcare’s Life Sciences business, located in the Seattle, WA area. Paul received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of California, San Diego and continued his education in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA where he obtained a Master’s degree. He then began work as a Research Technician in the Department of Pathology at the University of Washington in the laboratory of Dr. Russell Ross. It was here that he was introduced to the use of digital image processing and image analysis with light and electron microscopy. Paul was recruited by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center to create and manage the Image Analysis Core Facility where he developed a number of new imaging techniques. After ten years he was recruited to Applied Precision, Inc. in Issaquah, WA where he has served various roles in advanced application development, product management, R&D, and acted as the Chief Scientific Officer until its acquisition by GE Healthcare, Life Sciences in 2011. He now works with teams across the Life Sciences business to identify and solve technical challenges that affect our customers and our business, supports innovation, and provides both long-term vision and strategic planning for the organization.
Paul is an Affiliate Teaching Associate in the Department of Comparative Medicine at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. He is an expert in three-dimensional optics, deconvolution, super-resolution microscopy, and instrument development. He lectures frequently and serves as faculty for microscopy courses at the Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, MA including Analytical and Quantitative Light Microscopy (AQLM), Optical Microscopy and Imaging in the Biomedical Sciences (OMIBS) and Immunohistochemistry and Microscopy (IHCM). He has been a Councilor of the Histochemical Society since 2013 and is currently President of the society.
